(LOW TEMPERATURE THERMAL DECOMPOSITION)

Thermal methods for waste management aim at the reduction of the waste volume, the conversion of waste into harmless materials and the utilization of the energy that is hidden within waste as heat, steam, electrical energy or combustible material. They include all processes converting the waste content into gas, liquid and solid products with simultaneous or consequent release of thermal energy.
 

Conventional thermal method of waste disposal uses high temperature to burn the waste with the help of fuel/ energy. The high temperature generates toxic dioxins. Low temperature thermal decomposition addresses the issues with conventional system. The system is designed to destroy the solid waste which is complex in nature and a feasible segregation process is not possible. Even a highly modern waste management approach with source segregation, biogas generation and recycling of materials, leaves 10 to 20% of mixed waste which is going to landfills. Along with general household solid waste, the biomedical waste needs separate treatment plants. The approach with low temperature thermal destruction of organic (not only biodegradable) solid waste targets the complex part of waste in a economical environment friendly manner.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

Organic matters or organic solid waste (Municipal, Industrial, Medical etc.) loose their inter-molecular bond strength with increasing temperature and start disintegrating.

 

Under this condition magnetized air is added. It will initiate an exothermic reaction.

 

This will generate heat and create plasma inside the destruction chamber. A thermal run off or fusion like process will destroy the organic wastes.

 

Once starts, the destruction process will continue without adding any external heat or energy.

 

As the process temperature is low and the flue gas is cleaned, there will be no toxic emissions. 

 

The residue will be magnetic ash and inorganic metals, ceramics etc.  

KEY FEATURES

NO SEGREGATION

Segregation not required. Collected waste can be loaded into destruction chamber directly eliminating complex segregation process.

Meets Indian air pollution standards for flue gases. dose not release toxic gases like other thermal processes.

Works at very low temperature of ~450 degree centigrade eliminating chances of furans and dioxins formation. 

Very high volume reduction of ~ 95% can be achieved. The final ash output can be used for ceramic tile making. It does not depend on landfill.

Need no energy to destroy the waste. Very small energy is spent (1.5KWh/ Ton) to clean the flue gases and to run few accessories.

Can be operated by house keeping/ collection staffs. Needs no special skill. Collected waste needs to be loaded into the hopper/ loading bins. 

There are no moving parts and the operating temperature is very low making the machine very durable. It dose the job continuously.

LANDFILL

Even the scientific landfills are not the permanent solution with ever increasing solid waste. It can not accept all type of waste. GHG emission, leachate generation, space consumption are few of many issues caused by landfills. Can not be decentralized waste disposal method.

AUTOCLAVE

It's not the answer to waste disposal. It can only disinfect / sterilize the waste and process for incinerator or landfills. Very expensive capital as well as operation and maintenance cost. Needs trained work force to operate and maintain.

INCINERATOR

Very expensive to operate and releases lot of toxic gases as it operates at very high temperature. Small capacity units are not feasible to run and they pollutes the air a lot. Consumes energy or fuel to destroy waste.

Unsegregated Municipal solid waste

The complexity of waste character is increasing day by day. Unsegregated Municipal Solid Waste can be destroyed directly with out any segregation. The exothermic reaction which destroys the waste completely releases lot of heat which can be captured and utilized for direct heating or power generation. Small decentralized units can be installed at source.
